More Questions About Care of Vintage Clothes

Hi Again,

I still haven't washed that smokey "Movie Groovie." I am still trying to find out if it is considered ruined already before I wash it. I just bought a "Special Sparkle" coat #1468 and it seems stiff. Any more thoughts on to wash vs. not to wash? Does it still have any value? Should I just try to find a new one in better condition?

Still new at this so I am probably making a lot of mistakes. Does anyone have recommendations of what kind of stand to purchase? Any comments appreciated.

Desmoking suggestion...

I've gotten smoke off items by placing them in a plastic garbage bag with a fresh, open box of Arm & Hammer baking soda for a few days. Just set the item on the ground, and set the box of baking soda next to the item (don't sprinkle anything on it) where it won't be disturbed. Seal it all up tight for about 2-3 days, then check on it.

If that doesn't work, try it for at most a week. That will often help. If it doesn't, it might be too set-in the fabric.

Depending on the fabric, you might be OK with hand-washing, reshaping and drying, especially if the fabric is synthetic, like polyester. But if the fabric is cotton, silk or wool, it will most likely shrink and never be the same.
