by: tryingtofindout

hi there,
I am unfamiliar with the different makes of Barbie/Cindy dolls, what is this doll's name and brand?
Thank you!

I thought it was a noname doll I had, but seems it is a Francie from the late 70s or early 80s...

How can I have a Francie white gown with tags saying Francie 1965 when the doll didn't appear until l966?

by linda
(pa)

White satin gown, ruffle on bottom, empire waist with tags saying FRANCIE l965 Mattel

Hi Linda -
The dates on all of the dolls represent the copyright date and are generally the year before. Francie was "created" in 1965 and was introduced in 1966. This is still the case today, most Barbie doll boxes have the year before they are released because it takes a year to produce and distribute them in mass quantities.

Barbie/Ken 1960's Boywatcher Sunglasses?

by DeeAnne
(Omaha, NE USA)

Ken's sunglasses

Ken's sunglasses

Did Ken or Allen ever come with Girl/Boy watcher sunglasses? See blue sunglasses in picture? I swear I remember playing with these in the mid 60's with Ken.

Hi DeAnne -
Those belonged to Francie - from Francie Gad Abouts #1250 (1966 to 1967)!

I had the life-size blue boywatcher sunglasses! I got them in '66, and they cost $3.oo. A lot at the time.

My best friend and I had boywatcher sunglasses in the 60's. Mine were yellow and hers were blue. We sported then at Jacksonville Beach, Fl. this is the first I have seen them mentioned anywhere since!

I used to have the blue ones around 65 I think. Have been looking for some ever since, can't seem to find them anywhere. They came out with a similar, much cheaper looking version many years ago, but, I didn't like those.

I have saved my dress since I was a little girl, I was born in 1953 so this was my first fancy doll - however it is not pink. It is yellow with two layers of lace with green thread running through the bottom of the lace.

Question about Francie doll

by DaJuana Moore
(Danville,IN)

I remember my Francie doll having a goltone metallic mesh swimsuit and a long gold earring. I can't seem to find this one to ID. It would have been from the mid-late 1960's. Can anyone help me? I would love to find her. Thanks

It was Francie's friend Casey who had the gold swimsuit & earring - she has the same body as Francie - I haven't added her to the site yet - hopefully will get to her soon.
Thanks!

Help to identify piece with Francie 1965 tag?

by Cary
(Kimberly, WI)

One piece sleeveless shorty in orange opalescent satin, pink satin band at waist, 3 lines of pink lace on lower half. Also small bit of orange mesh trim at neck and armholes. One hook closure at back of neck. White tag attached inside at mid-back FRANCIE TM c1965 MATTEL I actually have 2, one is fairly played with and the other looks/feels stiff & new. Thank you soooo much!!! :) I have more pics of the nicer one if you would like....

Hi Cary -
I apologize for taking so long - you have probably already figured it out by now - it is the romper that goes with Francie's Wild 'n Wooly #1218 from 1968. It came with a plaid coat & skirt trimmed in orange vinyl.

Francie Summer Coolers Umbrella?

by Charlene
(Kansas City)

Umbrella Francie Summer Cooler

Umbrella Francie Summer Cooler

I acquired this umbrella with a box full of vintage Barbie/Francie/Skipper items so I believe it has something to do with one of them and I just saw an umbrella that was very similar on an auction site that stated it was from Francie Summer Coolers. However when I look at the picture in the book this umbrella looks nothing like it. Does anyone know if indeed it is from the Summer Coolers outfit? Thanks so much! Charlene

Hi Charlene -
I believe it is. I don't think I have ever seen one in person - but it looks like the photo in Sarah Sink Eames' Book. It gives the description as "yellow paper with a red/green/white design" - I assume yours probably faded from yellow to white over the last 43 years!
Suzanne

The tip is plastic. Looking at it, it doesn't looked replaced as it is on there pretty good. Also I saw one that sold on Ebay and it was also plastic, so I don't understand as I agree all the pictures look like the tip should be paper/plaster. The umbrella looks very old everywhere but of course with the tip being plastic, I don't know what to think!
Charlene

I am just wondering if the tip is plastic in this umbrella of yours? Because in those times and also in the pic of Sarah Sink Eames book, it looks like the tip (the white part in the end) is made of some sort of plaster.
I also have seen several both new and vintage umbrellas like this and the tip is always plaster...
I myself have on umbrella I am curious to know about - have you got any pic of an onne Francie umbrella?

I own the umbrella and the tip is a plaster/paper top. The umbrella in larger as well and the design is different. Hope this helps :-)

Francie umbrella
by: Sherry

I too have the Summer Coolers outfit and was hoping the umbrella with the doll stuff I got went to it, but I don't think so. Mine is pink instead.

I did find this info on Joe Blitman's site with a great picture of the actual umbrella.

Is This a Francie Doll? It's PJ

by Chelsea S.
(Los Angeles, California)

Hello! I recently recieved this doll as a gift, and after some thorough internet research I've come to the conclusion that she might be a Francie Doll...though I'm not sure. Her behind has the ©1966/ Mattel Inc. U.S. Patented U.S.Pat. Pend. Made In Japan markings that I was told identifies an actual vintage doll, as well as an angled swiveled waist (TNT?) and bendable legs. She has rooted eyelashes, blue eyeshadow, brown eyes, thin eyebrows, and it looks as though her lip paint is scarce (though it might have been produced that way? She still has the cupids bow clearly recognizable).
Thank you so much for any help anyone might be able to offer! ;)

Yellow plastic unique Francie/Barbie shoes sandals w/ bead fastener, can't identify.

by Laura
(Indiana USA)

Top of shoe showing banding and bead closure

Top of shoe showing banding and bead closure

These belonged in my sister's Barbie/Francie collection. I have no reason to believe they are not Mattel. They would be from the 1970s as that was when she played with her dolls. I've searched high and low to try and identify which outfit they go with or a name for them.

They are soft plastic with a gold bead button fastener that goes around the ankle of the doll. She didn't like to use them because she was concerned the button/bead would fall off.

Great site! and would appreciate input from people that know Barbie. (they could also be to a Julia outfit). Thanks!

Those sandals belong to Skipper outfit #1975 Sunny Suity 1969

your shoes are from the Skipper outfit Sunny Suity #1975 from 1969-1970
Happy Collecting!

Thanks SO much!
Sorry I did not check and see both of your replies sooner. I appreciate you being able to identify the shoes for me. Many thanks!

Need Help on Vintage Francie Doll....Please!! -- Casey

by Linda
(McHenry, IL)

Vintage Francie doll found at garage sale. She has real eyelashes, she is a TNT, her butt markings says "1966, Mattel inc, US Patented, US Pat Pending, Made in Japan.
I am not a collector, so I am pretty stupid here.....
She has a small smile which I cannot find anywhere while researching, although I read where some did have this.
As you can see from picture, blue eyed, brunette.
Is she real? What year is she? Is she worth anything??
Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Hi Linda -
Your doll is Francie's Friend Casey. She was made from 1967 to 1970. (I don't have her on the site yet.)

help on the way
by: Ms. Jo

Hi. The doll you show is a friend of Francie. Francie and Casey were the new dolls to wear the MOD clothes of the late 1960's that had flooded USA from England's Carnaby St. I had that doll as a blonde. The book by Sibyl DeWein and Joan Ashabraner identify her on pg 35. She is mentioned in several other books about Barbie as well. She has a flatter bust, and is 1/4in shorter than the original Barbie doll. She often has green near her ear, due to a metal earring's reaction to the plastic if left in too long. If she has NO green on her ear or otherwise, and her legs still bend, her hair intact, and has her eyelashes, you can get up to $200.00. But, generally, that is with her original outfit. I paid $49 for her friend Francie. She looks really nice.

Please help identify brown-eyed barbie

She has brown eyes and rooted eyelashes with the black line above her eyes. No twistable waist but she does have bendable knees. She has holes in her feet which are slightly pointed - not flat like Skipper but not made for high heels like some Barbies. Her blond hair is up in a fancy ponytail. I have looked all over the net and cannot find a match! Thanks for any help. Oh, the copyright is 1966, then it also says 1967 and Japan.

You have a Vintage Francie Doll. I'm pretty sure she is Francie with Growin' Pretty Hair (1970 - 1973), I can't tell 100% from the photo - but she was the only Francie with a bun & the body markings are correct. If she is a Francie with Growin' Pretty Hair, her bun will include a retractable pony-tail. I don't have it on the site yet, but here are the current listings on eBay.
