Vintage American Girl Barbie Doll had bendable legs and a glamorous new hair style. Her official name was Bendable Leg Barbie when she was sold by Mattel, but collectors have long since named her "American Girl".
1965 and 1966
Blonde - Light, Ash and Yellow
Red / Titian
Blue eyes, brown eyebrows, yellow, orange or raspberry lips
A variety of lip and brow colors were made
The later dolls from 1966 had heavier and brighter makeup - often referred to as "high color"
Markings on head rim:
Copyr. © 1958 Mattel Inc.
Made In Japan
The markings were presented three different ways. The first dolls from 1965 had everything indented. In 1966 the "Made in Japan" was raised. The later 1966 dolls were all raised. A neat way to tell where in the cycle your doll was made.
