Do I have a Bild Lilli?

In her original outfit

Hi,
I'm new to Barbie collecting and bought a lot of barbies that included what the seller said was a vintage Bild Lilli doll. It is identified as

Evergreen
British Colony
Hong Kong
1011 1/2

Is this a Bild Lilli? Also, is there anywhere online that I can research this specific doll to find out about it?

Thanks so much for your time, I really appreciate it.

Hi Suzy -
Sorry, but you have a Barbie clone - not a Bild Lilli. I had added a photo of Bild Lilli so you can see the difference.
I have a Pinterest board with Barbie clones & Bild Lilli dolls - you can visit it here - Barbie clones on Pinterest.

Id request for Barbie Clone

by Rebecca Logan
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

This is likely a 1970 short redhaired barbie. It was manufactured in Hong Kong. She is wearing a white crop top a red bonnet and a red high waisterd flared skirt. she has blue eyes and small breasts. The barbie comes with an offwhite vanity mirors a stool and a small hand miror.

Hi -
This is not a Barbie - more likely a clone, or maybe Tammy? Maybe someone will recognize her. The vanity is by Suzy Goose, they made white bedroom furniture for Barbie in the mid-1960s.

Can't figure out name of this Vintage Barbie Doll dress!

by Katie

Hello and wonderful site! What a big help! This is a strapless dress made of light and dark pink satin with a decoration running up the middle. No tags, snaps at the back. This came out of a box of my aunts barbie stuff. Everything I've found in there I've been able to trace to early 1960's barbie, its really been like a mini time capsule (AA stewardess, nurse, ponytail barbie, all in a vintage carrying case that my uncle was going to throw out!) This one I just haven't been able to place, I suppose it could be a barbie knockoff?

Thanks so much!

Hi Katie -
I am wondering if it could be homemade? Many of the mothers on the 1960s were excellent seamstresses and many of us had very well made homemade Barbie clothing.

Mystery pink dress

The dress in your photo is a store bought Barbie sized dress, but it's a generic brand. No tag but very nice satin and well made.
It came in various color combos, but I have never seen the pink version. Lucky you!

Pink Clone Dress
by: debbiefs

This is a copy of a Premier company dolls dress which was mistakenly taken for a mattel sample dress for many years. It has been recently found in a Premier doll dress catalogue by someone in an archive in the USA.

Apparently there are a number of similarly styled dresses in various colours in similar fabrics with the front panel metalic ribbon. I think most would be clones by various companies, so you would have to check if it was home made or not by checking the sewing inside the dress to look at the technique, including what fastenings were used. Most experienced seamstresses are likely to be able to tell.

Is this a Lilli Bild Type Barbie?

25 years ago I purchased an amazing collection of vintage Barbie dolls from an estate sale. The deceased woman had only the most collectable Barbie-color magic NRFB, Talking Barbies NRFB, American Girl Barbies etc... I give you this background because there is a Barbie I have no idea if she is a Lilli Bild or a copycat or what. I have found 3 others that are similar but not the same as this one. She has her original up-do and has a Barbie markings body. Any direction or info is appreciated. Markings on rear: C 1958 Mattel, Inc. U.S Patented U.S Pat. Pend.

Vintage Barbie Shoes marked "Japan Premier"?

I am trying to get some information about some barbie shoes that I have. They are marked "Japan Premier" on both shoes and are from around 1960. Are these just vintage knock-off barbie shoes? Do they have any value? Thanks you so much for the help.

As far as I know these are knock-offs and would have little, if any, value. More info here about Vintage Barbie Shoes.

I have two pairs of these . Blue and Red. They came with a set from Sears 1968 Christmas catalog. They were with a matching purse, hair piece, net white stockings, and umbrella. The blue shoes were closed toe and the red were the open toe. I think they sold for .99 back then and were not by Barbie.

Bild-Lilli
by: Martha Andersen

Hi, oh I envy you - very much - if you can't find any markings this is Bild-Lilli for sure. I have a book about her and I just found a picture of one in an outfit that looks like this. Is it possible that what looks to be like a little nighty is turn so the back is what we see, and does is have ties on what's the back? Then it's a genuin Bild-Lilli outfit #1155.

Bild Lilli
by: Alexandra

Looks like a Bild Lilli to me as well. Her no-markings are unmistakable. Her plastic should be frail, and her hair should be made of mohair. If that all checks out you have found yourself quite the gem! I am BEYOND jealous. It is my dream to own one.

Wow
by: Chloe Sandol

It's possible that these came from a weekly or monthly magazine subscription in the 90's. I know the first issue came with a doll and each week after she would go somewhere or do something that required a new outfit.
The magazine was all done in cartoon drawings and had lots of facts about the current subject and a story aswell.
I had heaps of these as a child, and I have been searching for them for ages.
Cannot for the life of me remember what she was called or find anything about it on the internet.

Magazine Doll
by: Chloe

I think this was a doll that came with her own monthly magazine.
Each month featured the doll (who's name I forget. It's driving me insane.) in a different job or country or place which would naturally require a new outfit.
The magazine had her story of the month and was also filled with real facts.
I had so many of these magazines as a kid and I miss them terribly.
Hope this helps.
Chloe.

Vicky Doll info. A Fabbri Publication.1991/2
26 issues. Doll came with first issue"On Safari"
Issued fortnightly. Purchased through Newsagencies.
Doll was made by B.B.I. Which is Blue Box Toys.
Doll 29cm tall. Blonde with fringe (bangs). Blue eyes. Freckles across nose and cheeks. Twist waist. Jointed at top of leg and shoulder. Non-bendable legs. Soft vinyl head with rooted waist length hair. Markings on back copyright logo followed by
1986 BBI and underneath that MADE IN CHINA.
The year probably applies to the body mould and not Vicky's release date. The body plastic is of poor quality and would not have with stood rough play.
Dolls head was set on to the ball shape at top of neck.

Help please! Is this an original or just some "bootleg"?

by Karlita
(Mexico)

Hi, every one. Greetings from Mexico! Please, help me to figure out if the one of the right is original or just a repro. See the difference? The one on the left is some old mexican Peaches and Cream I was given at the middle 80's. Of course I'm sure she's original. All 80's barbie dolls I've seen get buttocks like this. The other one (on the right) is a Heart Family mom, recently bought on ebay, but I'm not sure she's original, even she came box sealed with the rest of the family and all accessories. The box looks old and shows some wear, cello is age yellowed (same as the tapes inside), but dolls are kind of strange. Let me explain my self: faces, bodies and hair are beautiful and identical to originals, but some materials seem to be of low quality, and those round buttocks are worrying me, because I've never seen buttocks like these in any barbie doll. She´s marked on back Mattel Inc. 1966 Taiwan. Could be a "bootleg"? or could be some "different" edition or variation? Thank you very much!

Mexico dolls
by: Jax

This is a great site, glad I found it. I'm in the UK & have until more recent years bought loads of pink box dolls, but don't recall seeing a Barbie with booty like that, almost flat with a ridge, or having one made in Mexico. They have all had a rounded shape. If memory serves, the Mexico factory was operational around the late 60s, but only for a short period as it burnt down. The demise of the factory probably accounts for the none production of the Becky doll & the original Casey mould disappearing from the line after 1970. It's most likely your Peach doll had a body swap, unless someone elso can throw some light.

Hoping to id Barbie Clothes from 1980 - 1985

by Heidi
(Australia)

My Aunty gave me two pieces of Barbie clothing, they are as follows:

Light brown Long sleeved Jumper with red hearts/ or heart on the breast

White long trousers/pants with a red stripe down each side.

I think between the years of 1983 - 1985, she died in 1985. I live in Australia, so we may have had different catalogue items. I have described the clothing from memory, so it may not be exact, however I would know the clothing if I saw it.

I have searched ebay and tried looking through Barbie Fashion Catalogues with no luck.

Can anyone help with PLU numbers or a year - anything, any info would be great.

I would love to own these pieces again!

Identification Question: Vintage Barbie with curved eyebrows, pearl earrings, white irises no bangs Japan

by Janice
(Chicago, Il)

Barbie no bangs white irises curved eyebrows

Barbie no bangs white irises curved eyebrows

I recently purchased this what I believe to be vintage Barbie. I have not found anything that looks like this. The bottom of the left foot is marked Japan--letters are indented, not raised. She has no holes on the bottom of her feet. There is red polish on the finger and toe nails. She has no bangs and pearl earrings--no green color by the ears. Her eyebrows are faint and rounded. The eyeliner is extended. Her irises are white. The markings on the right rear cheek (when she is turned over) say: Barbie, with some kind of circle above the e--maybe a R, Pat Pending, c MCMLV!!!, by Matel Inc. Does anyone know anything about her?

Hi Janice -
Your Barbie is not a Barbie - it is a "clone" - or a cheaper knock-off made during the 1960s. It sounds as if her head is on a Barbie body - you can check this page for Vintage Barbie Markings

Question about Vintage Ken vs GI Joe Wearing Sailor Suit

by Jon
(Texas)

Ken Doll

Ken Doll

Vintage Ken doll (I think).

I used to play with a vintage GI Joe 12" doll (1964 style) when I was a young boy and I was given this sailor doll when I was a child in the mid 1970's. It had belonged to my Aunt when she was a child/teen and she passed it on to me. My Aunt is now in her early/mid 60s.

When I was given the toy, I was told that this was a Ken doll, but since it wore a sailor suit and it matched the size of my GI Joe doll (1964 style) I was ok with playing with it.

The doll has "Made in Hong Kong NO 2012" stamped on it's back. The suit top has a tag that also says "Made in Hong Kong" in it.

When I received the doll it came with the blue sailor suit, a white rifle, a white sailor hat and black shoes.

I am trying to determine if this is a Ken doll, or some other sort of doll. I'm guessing it is from sometime in the very early 1960s or maybe late 1950s, but am not sure. I've read that the first Ken dolls were from 1961 so I'm not sure about this doll being Ken. I guess this dolls age based on my Aunt's current age (early/mid 60s).

Any help with identifying this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Jon-
It is not a Ken doll - my first thought is that it is a GI Joe? Anyone recognize him?

Possible Vintage Mini? Vintage Dawn Dolls

by Jaynie H.
(Jersey Shore, PA, U.S.)

I have two, smaller than average, Barbie dolls.

One is a strawberry blonde, approx. 6" doll. She has brown eyebrows, blue eyes (downward and to the right, when facing her)and rooted eyelashes. The back of her head is marked "73", and below that, "K11A".

The second is more of a brunette, dark eyebrows, blue eyes (to the left, when facing her), and also, rooted eyelashes. The back of her head is marked "68", and below that, "H17".

Both are made with bendable legs, and the twist/turn waist. Neither have any other identifying marks, nor stamps, even for where they were made.

Hi Jaynie -
Your dolls are vintage Dawn Dolls - they were a line of 6" dolls made by the Topper Co from 1970 to 1973. They were reissued in the late 1990s to 2003. You can see them here on eBay.

I need help to identify 3 dolls

I think the first doll is a Francie doll, but she has a hole in the back of her head and a ponetail is sticking out. when I tried to remove the head to see if it had been changed on the body, the hair/ponytail is in the neck so the body is original to the doll. made in Japan and it has 2 dates-1966 then 1967 over Japan.
The second doll has 1966 and made in Japan on the buttocks-bendy legs and twist at waist.
The third doll is made by Louis Marx and has 1966 in roman numerals. this one also has a round hole in the back of the head.thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jeannette -
The first doll is Francie with Growin' Pretty Hair (1970 - 1973). The second looks like a Malibu Barbie. The third is a Barbie Clone - there were several different types of Barbie "knock-offs" made in the early sixties.

its actually a clone of Bild Lilli who was the inspiration for Barbie. (as barbie was actually a clone, but marketed towards children not men the way bild lilli was.)

I own that Pepper doll you are talking about; also have man original outfits and accesories.

red haired barbie
by: Jennifer

I am actually wondering if what you THINK is a Pepper doll who has short lightbrown/blondish hair, not what I would call red is actually the red haired barbie skipper from about 1963. Pepper is made by Ideal and is only 91/2 inched tall, so look for vintage red haired skipper on ebay and see if it matches her. Good lunck

Midge?

Red hair, freckles, flip hairdo - that's Midge, Barbie's friend fron the 60's.

PMA
by: Martha Andersen

Hi, this type shoes were used by PMA - Plastic Molded Art - for Debby and for Bonnie by Elite and others I'm sure. These dolls have larger feet than Barbie and Barbie type dolls. I have a collection of those dolls along with a lot of other 60's fashion doll and some of those shoes.

Shoe Mystery

I have a PMA Debby bride doll and she is wearing these exact same pair of shoes. She is in her original outfit right down to the boquet so I can tell you that the PMA Debby dolls are at least one group of dolls that wear these shoes.

Help with slip/bra/panties set- not found on your site or Ebay

by Kelly B.
(GA)

Hello & thanks in advance for any help you can provide! I am trying to ID a set of white pleated nylon slip, panties & strapless bra. It looks similar to the ones I've seen on your site & eBay, but this one has pleats starting at the top of the slip. No tag found. Perhaps it's not Barbie brand. Bra has metal hook and metal loop closure.
Photo attached.
Thanks!!
Kelly

These are not Mattel / Barbie items. They look like they were homemade to me.

Who does this nurse/red cross/ candy striper outfit belong to?

The dress is blue and white striped, the skirt is pretty full. A white apron that has one snap in the back. The hat and dress has a white tag with green lettering and green outline making a box that says - Made in Hong Kong - inside it. The purse is a soft plastic. I don't know if the white shoes go with it or not but they were in there too.

It was with a #5 Skipper doll from 1963 but I cannot find this outfit anywhere. Could it be just a generic outfit?

Can you identify: Large 20" doll, Bubble cut rooted hair, sleeping eyes and rooted eyelashes

by Cindy Jones
(Jefferson City, Missouri)

Doll #3 is my main mystery:
Large 20" doll, Bubble cut rooted hair, sleeping eyes and rooted eyelashes - I do not know 'WHO' she is? My sister and I played with her at our grandmothers house in the 70's. She has a few store bought clothes with her and some handmade, custom clothes. The markings on the back of her head are "U" and a sideways 6 or g?

Doll #1 is also unknown. She has "Ideal Toy Corp" on her back (see photo) and she's shorter than Barbie, has freckles under her eyes - and her eyes look left. Do you know who she is as well?

Hi Cindy -
#1 looks like a Vintage Tammy doll to me.
#2 is a vintage Francie doll.
I am not familiar with doll #3. The "U" stands for Uneeda Doll Company. They made a "Barbie Clone" and other dolls in the 1960s & 1970s. They had a line called "Dollkins" - but I do not know if this is one - they were mainly 11 1/2". Maybe someone else can help to identify her further.

Question About Red & White Zebra Swimsuit

by Jessica
(NY)

red & white zebra swimsuit

red & white zebra swimsuit

I don't know what doll this goes too. If it was a Mattel doll for a clone of Barbie. Could you please help

Barbie did not have a Red & White Zebra Striped Swimsuit - hers was Black & White. I do believe that some of the Barbie "Clones" (or "knock-offs") must have come with them, because I have seen them before. As far as I know they would have little, if any, value.

ZEBRA SUIT IN 5 COLORS
by: Anonymous

HI,
EEGEE PRODUCED A DOLL BALLED BABETTE. SHE HAD A CHOICE OF 5 DIFFERENT COLOR ZEBRA STRIPE SWIMSUITS TO COMPETE WITH BARBIE. BABETTE IS HARD TO FIND AND SOME COLLECTORS LIKE THEM JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE THE COMPETITION. BABETTE IS A CHEAPLY MADE DOLL AND MOST DID NOT LAST VERY LONG. BUT, THIS WAS THE DOLL THAT HAD ALL THE ZEBRA STRIPE COLOR OPTIONS.

Barbie 1966 #13 made in Korea w/Twist & Turn body

by Bonnie Jacobsen
(Everett,WA. USA)

Barbie 1966 #13

Barbie 1966 #13

She is Barbie. On her head there is no head stamp. On her back by her waist it reads:
Mattell, Inc.
13 1966 Korea

She also has a Twist and Turn body and one arm is bent into shape with a finger to place a ring in. I don't know if it is an original or an original head stuck onto the body. Please help!

Hi Bonnie -
It looks like you have a Swirl Ponytail Barbie head on a later body. Barbies were made in Korea from 1973 to 1978 - so the body would be from that time period.

Doll ID
by: Kween of Klones

Your doll is Marlena Evans from the daytime soap Days of Our Lives. I believe she came in a pale blue wedding gown. I have her somewhere in one of my cabinets but not where I can get to her quickly to check. Hope this helps.

Who this doll is
by: Anonymous

This doll looks like Marlena Evans from the Barbie Daytime Drama Collection. She is suppose to be wearing a pale blue wedding dress for her marriage to John Black. I have watched Days of Our Lives since my high school days or maybe a little before then, but was not aware of the existence of this doll until I saw her today at an Antique Mall in Springfield, OH.
She is definitely a "must have," even if she is a little pricey.

It has no markings, just the number 3 printed inside her shoe.
Also, her feet and shoes have holes in them so that she can stand up.
I know it must be some international brand, because this one I got it from Italy, and I have seen another one from Greece.
Any info will be much appreciated!

I have no idea - I'll look through some reference books & see if come across her - or maybe someone else will recognize her.

Barbie with no bangs?

by Alexandra Hamlin
(Michigan)

Hi there. I found this Barbie at a Gibralter around the corner from my house. I really know nothing about it and would really appreciate some help.

She has no bangs, but there is a strange line at the top of her forehead. Her hair is blond and is pulled into a bun at the top of her head. Her eyes are really scratched up and appear to have been repainted. And her body is made of a really light plastic (I think). Somethings odd with her lips as well, there is some kind of gouge between them I think. I am new to being a Barbie collector, so I don't know much of anything. I would love any helpful information you could provide!

Hi Alexandra - This is not a Barbie - it is a "clone" - which is the term used to describe the cheaper Barbie knock-offs or copies made in the same era. Many companies tried to capitalize on Barbie's popularity by making their own versions and selling them at cheaper prices.

Is this a Barbie? Auburn Bob hairstyle - U on Neck

Is this a Barbie? It doesn't have any markings on it other than a U on the back of the neck. I think I got this doll in the late 60's or early 70's. Do you know the value?

Thank you

This is not a Barbie doll - the U stands for "Uneeda" - The Uneeda company made a Barbie Clone called "Miss Suzette".

MISS Suzette or "plain" Suzette..
by: Rebecca

Uneeda made several dolls with the "U" on the neck including Debbie, Tina Marie, Suzette and probably others as well, all with the same head mold. In addition, the "U" head was a stock head and was used by several other manufacturers on a variety of bodies. Uneeda made an earlier Suzette doll that looks like Little Miss Revlon then a few years later made another Suzette with the "U" head.

Miss Suzette was also made by Uneeda and distributed through the Grant stores for a year only.

MISS Suzette looks rather like an exotic Tressy or Tammy. MISS Suzette also has a Y-shaped butt/legs very different from the standart fashion doll butt/legs.

Suzette and Miss Suzette are frequently confused by uninformed collectors. A google search gave me a listing for "Miss Suzette" that actually brought up a picture of a Suzette doll IN THE BOX marked "Suzette"!! The person had it labled as "Miss Suzette" Ebay listings are especially unreliable. To further confuse things there were several other dolls named Suzette.

I tried to find a picture of a nude Miss Suzette, but I think it's one that got lost when my computer crashed a few years ago.

brunette, made in hong kong stamped on back, hollow hard like plastic, not rubber, earrings are molded in. feet have holes for a peg to stand up. waist does not swivel, just the legs. you can see the seams for the mold on the legs. eyebrows go up not in an inverted V. http://www.flickr.com/photos/36636846@N07/sets/72157624499520103/

bild lilli
by: ruthe

oh, and bild lilli dolls were made in a few sizes ranging from small, the size you have, a barbie size, just under 12" and then there was a larger one as well. the bild lilli doll was actually what barbie was based on, she came before, 1955-1959 way less of them produced than barbie, but a lot of clones.. the background on bild lilli is really neat, it was based on a comic, and original toys werent fashion dolls like we know them today :)

I think this doll is a liddle kiddle. She has dark blonde hair, with a

Her painted on shoes are green.

NOT Vintage Barbie... But Vintage!
by: Barbie Freak

Its a Bild Lilli doll. Those dolls are seen as collectable however obviously not barbie dolls. Some are more desired than others as is with all dolls EG, there are some limited edition Bild Lilli's with darker skintones or from certain parts of the world that are worth more. Keep her, DO NOT repaint and try and protect her as much as you can becuase she is worth alot of moola ^_^

And she is cute... lolz
I hope i helped! BAI *waves*

Not a Bild Lilli
by: Rebecca

This is not a Bild Lilli nor is she a Bild Lilli clone. Lilli will have her earrings and shoes painted on. Most of them have a two-part head so the front piece looks like a mask.

Suzanne is correct. She is one of the many, many Barbie clones that were produced. Some had manufacturer's marks and some did not. If you type "Barbie Clone" or "clone doll" into Bing or Google, you will find lots of them with identifying information. I have several of these unmarked dolls.

Enjoy your doll. She's lovely.

Not a Lilli
by: Kween of Clones

Your doll is definitely a Lilli clone that was produced in the '60's to compete with Mattel's Barbie doll. To really ID her, you need to have a better full length photo and list of body markings. She is a very pretty doll but not worth tons of money.

Looks like a barbie, Blonde hair that is curled up a the bottom, blue eyes that look off the the right, four painted eyelashed. There is some sort of device like a push button at the waist and also shows at the back. No clue what it is.

Push the belly button in and pull the hair up and out of her head. The device at her lower back is screwed to the right to put the hair back into her head. That's why her head is slightly too big for her body!

It could also be the third Tressy, which had blonder hair. If you enter Tressy doll outfits in your search engine, there is a great site, that can identify her. Hope this helps!

Tuesday Taylor Fashion Dolls

by Bobbi
(Pittsburgh, PA)

Question:
In the seventies, I had a Barbie-like doll called Tuesday/Wednesday. She was brunette and then you'd flip her hair over, and she was blond. Also, there was a very mod dollhouse, not Barbie. The dollhouse had a sunken living room with a firepit, and a rooftop garden, and closets. It came with party food, like potato chips. My mom remembers it as well, but I cannot find any information on it. We threw it away when my dog laid down in it and it cracked. The dollhouse was not pink and tall the like Barbie Dreamhouse. Does anyone know where I can find these?
Answer:

Hi Bobbi -

Hi Bobbi,
I had that same doll when I was a kid, I am 39 years old and I was about 6 OR 7 in the seventies.when I had that doll my doll was black and one side of her head was brunette and u would turn her head to the other side and it was blonde,I always think about that doll, so i searched and found your story and could relate.

I remember it well...the doll & the house
by: Andrea

Tuesday Taylor could change from a Brunette to a Blond with the twist of the top of her head. The dollhouse was actually two houses in one....one was like a winter chalet and the other was a summer beach house. Don't quite remember how the house changed but there was some way of setting it up differently, depending on whether it was winter or summer. Loved it.

Tuesday is Terrific!
by: Wendy

I have been collecting some NRFB Tuesday Taylors for a while now. Today I received my second Suntan TT. I was so happy to notice that in addition to this doll being packaged with her "brunette" side facing front (my first is blonde-forward), that she has bronze shoes as opposed to blonde TT's white shoes. Does anyone out there know anthing about this? I'll check back soon for replies (I hope). Thanks!
